We're happy to start this edition of the ESWN newsletter with some pieces of good news! First, we are thrilled to welcome LaQuetta Walker as the new ESWN Project Manager!

Those who have been involved in the co-creation of ESWN already know Laquetta as a valued member of the ESWN Advisory Committee and Working Group, representing the Black Parent Network. Others may know her from her extensive work in public education, Black parent engagement and food security. LaQuetta will join the team part-time in May and full-time in July. You'll start hearing from her soon!
In other good news, the juggernaut of federal attacks on public education has hit some speedbumps. For instance, last week, three judges enjoined the Trump Administration from enforcing orders "telling the nation’s schools and colleges to eliminate much of their diversity, equity, and inclusion programming or risk losing federal funds." Notably, Colorado's Commissioner of Education, Susana Córdova, had already declined to follow the Administriative's directives. (Still, the deluge of detrimental Executive Orders continues . . .)
And in good news on the state front, the Senate passed S.J.Res. 25-021, a resolution committing the legislature to taking action to implement the recent state-commissioned School Funding Adequacy Studies. It currently awaits House action in the last days of the session.

Calls to Action
Help Us Elevate Student Voice in Colorado!
The Every Student Welcome Network (ESWN), is collecting data to better understand how youth voice is being supported in education and policy—and where more resources are needed. Whether you’re a student advocate or part of a youth-serving organization, your input will help shape future funding, partnerships, and support for youth leadership across Colorado.
We invite you to take a few minutes to complete the survey that best applies to you:
- Youth-Serving Organizations / Youth Coalitions
- Students & Youth Advocates (Ages 13–22). BONUS: Complete the survey for a chance to win one of eight $25 gift cards!
Your input matters—and together, we can create a stronger, more connected future for youth advocacy in Colorado.
If you have any questions or want to get involved further, please feel free to reach out to Jeeva Senthilnathan at jsenthilnathan5@gmail.com.
From our friends at the Colorado Immigrants Rights Coalition:
Urge Your Legislators and Governor Polis to Stand with Colorado Immigrant Families & Support by passing SB276, which strengthens Colorado’s existing laws by closing data privacy loopholes, fortifying constitutional protections for immigrants at public locations like hospitals, schools, and childcare centers, and by prohibiting local law enforcement from honoring ICE detainer requests without a judicial warrant.
